John Hogan - Darwin Now Home for Adelaide Sailor

Like most Darwin people, John Hogan started life somewhere else.

“I grew up in several suburbs in Adelaide and I also have grandparents and siblings still living there — but I now live in Darwin with my better half Vickie Hogan and my children Jake (13), Reece (7) and Jazmine (3).

“I joined the Navy for travel and adventure and I remember the day exactly — 5th June 1994. I specialized as a Bosun’s mate [on-deck seamanship] and after a few years in frigates I joined the patrol boat world.

“Aboard HMAS GLENELG I am responsible for all seamanship and gunnery evolutions. I am the head of my department and boss of six Junior sailors.

“I have been to many overseas ports including Japan, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Phillipines, Hawaii, and all around Australia.  But it’s not just the travel. I am always learning!

“When I get home from this latest trip I intend spending some time with my wife and kids maybe go to Litchfield National Park for a weekend.”
