Scott Atkinson - Wyndham

Not long ago local couple Jane and Bruce Atkinson were at Wyndham High School cheering their son Scott on at his graduation ceremony.

But last Thursday (8 Dec) they were at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra, watching Scott not only celebrating completing his military training and the third year of his university degree, but also being presented with the prestigious Chief of Army Prize.

Scott was judged the most outstanding junior officer among this year’s Army graduates at ADFA.

“It was a big surprise to me,” said Scott, “But I was even prouder that mum and dad were there.”

The next professional steps for Scott will be a year of further training at the Royal Military College – Duntroon (where he will graduate as a Lieutenant), followed by the final year of study for his engineering degree.

“I still won’t be finished then,” said Scott. “I’ll be heading for the Army’s School of Engineering at Holsworthy near Sydney for even more training.”

But in the meantime Scott is having some well-earned ‘R and R’.

“I’m already looking forward to catching up to celebrate with my friends at home during my leave,” he said.
