Shane Parker - Holsworthy
Holsworthy’s Shane Parker is a ‘safe pair of hands’ – that’s his job and he’s proud of it, in or out of uniform.
The Army reservist is one of the happiest soldiers serving right now with the Australian-led International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in East Timor.
Corporal Shane Parker says he is doing exactly what he wants and is getting valuable experience and life skills along the way.
A work safety consultant in his civilian life, Corporal Parker is applying those skills as a safety advisor in addition to his other duties at the ISF’s support base in Dili.
“I am part of the Combat Service Support Team over here and my safety role is giving me an opportunity to enhance my abilities,” Corporal Parker said.
“I am currently studying for my Masters in Occupational Health & Safety and am looking forward to adding value to being an Army reservist.”
While he’s enjoying the job in East Timor, Corporal Parker will unfortunately miss the third birthday of one of his three young boys.
“Holsworthy is a great place to bring up the kids and I am also lucky to have my extended family living locally,” he said.
Military runs deep in the Parker family. Both of Corporal Parker’s grandfathers served in World War 2 with other relatives having served in Vietnam.
The ISF is in East Timor to support local security forces to maintain a stable and secure environment at the invitation of the Government of Timor-Leste.
