Our People in NSW
Bradley Holls - Newtown Man in Sumatra RescueLocal medic Captain Bradley Holls is providing critical medical aid to the people of a small village in West Sumatra which was hit by a devastating earthquake two weeks ago.
He has been on the ground in Sungai Geringging for over a week and has helped treat over 400 people.
“We are here to provide primary health care to the local population and outlying areas,” said Bradley.
“These people have not had any basic treatment since the earthquake so we are seeing a wide range of conditions.”
People are traveling for over four hours just to see the team that CAPT Holls works with.
“They are very patient and it’s great to see the smiles on peoples’ faces when we help them. The kids are the best; it makes me feel really good when I see the difference I am making to their lives,” he said.
CAPT Holls is a member of the Sydney based 1st Health Support Battalion . He’s part of the government’s response to the earthquake that hit nearby Padang.
Australian military personnel are now providing primary health care to outlying areas of Padang as well as clean water to over 78,000 households in the poorest regions of the city.
