Scott Broad - KEEPING THE PEACE IN TIMORNormally based in Wagga with the Australian Defence Force Investigative Service, Corporal Broad, 25, is serving as a RAAF Security Police Investigator with the International Stabilisation Force in Dili.
“I’m part of a team dealing with all aspects of military justice in the country,” Scott said.
“It’s not what I’d call a 9 to 5 job, and I’m loving every moment of it. It’s great to be able to put years of training to use on an operation, practise my skills and to be constantly learning more at the same time.”
Scott served with an Army Reserve infantry unit in Bendigo before transferring to the full-time RAAF in 2004 and realising his dream of working as an investigator with the Security Police.
His commitment to his career has also seen him undertake a degree in police investigations and his long-term plan includes becoming an officer.
Scott’s deployment will take him through until September but he’ll be fortunate enough to have a short period of leave in February with his fiancée Samantha in Wagga. He also looks forward to catching up with his mum Beverley in Bayswater, brother Aaron in Shepparton andbrother Linton in Fairfield.
Scott is one of about 750 Australian Defence Force personnel currently serving in Timor-Leste.
The operation is part of the Australian Government's response to a request from the Government of Timor-Leste to assist in bringing stability, security and confidence to the Timorese to allow them to resolve their differences democratically and peacefully.
