They are aboard HMAS STUART and heading for six months patrolling in the Persian Gulf. One key task will be safeguarding Iraq’s two giant oil terminals that bring in over 80% of the country’s income. For 22 years Air Force storeman Corporal Bill Clarke, 48, has dreamt of serving his country on an overseas operation, and finally his time has come. "I put in an expression of interest through Air Headquarters mid last year," he said, "and then I got a phone call later in the year from an officer offering me a position in the Middle East Area of Operations. | Petty Officer Wayne Donohoe - ON DUTY IN THE PERSIAN GULF Local sailor Wayne Donohoe is a Canberra man through and through - he grew up here, his parents live in O'Malley and his wife and kids live in Jerrabomberra. But these days Wayne is calling the Persian Gulf home while he is serving as a Marine Technician onboard HMAS Warramunga.
