Strategy Executive
Strategy Executive is part of the Office of the Secretary and Chief of the Defence Force (OSCDF) Group.
Mr Brendan Sargeant as Deputy Secretary Strategy (DEPSEC S) is focused on delivering high quality policy advice, driving organisational reform and providing strategic leadership for the Executive. A key part of Brendan's job is to assist the Minister for Defence, Secretary and CDF to better respond to the demands of Defence's high operational tempo.
Strategy Executive consists of the following divisions:
- International Policy Division provides strategic level policy advice to Government on the central issues of Australia”s Defence policy, including international Defence relations and ADF operations. The role of International Policy (IP) Division is to:
- Provide advice to the Minister, Secretary and the CDF, the Services and Defence Groups on international policy issues;
- Manage Defence's international relationships and the Defence Cooperation Program;
- Provide policy guidance for ADF operations and international defence activities; and
- Manage Defence representation overseas.
- Manage Australia”s Overseas Defence Attachés and Advisers who between them are accredited to over 50 countries and International Organisations.
- Strategic Policy Division provides the Defence Organisation with its overarching strategic guidance and supporting plans to inform Defence decision making including the development and use of Defence capability and the deployment of the ADF. Strategic Policy Division manages Australian export controls and provides policy advice on arms control and international collaborative programs. Strategic Policy Division also manages Defence's involvement in domestic counter terrorism; space, cyber and missile defence; strategic strike capabilities and effects; strategic education for the policy workforce; and Defence relations with think tanks. Internationally Strategic Policy Division engages with key allies and regional partners and supports several staff posted overseas.
