Operation Tsunami Assist

The first group of Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel has arrived in Indonesia to provide humanitarian assistance following the tsunami that swept through the region on Boxing Day.

Australian Steven Stewart from the Indonesian island of Asu was hit by a vehicle while he was on his way back to town from organising a planeload of aid. Mr Stewart suffered a lacerated nose, and fractured arm. Mr Stewart spoke with Medical Evacuation officer Wing Commander Geoffrey Robinson in a hospital in Medan about returning to Australia.
