The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr John Howard, and the Minister for Defence, Senator Robert Hill, announced further humanitarian relief assistance from Australia to Indonesia following a severe earthquake affecting the Sumatra region on 29 March 2005.

Two Air Force Hercules C-130J aircraft took off from RAAF Base Richmond, loaded with medical supplies and Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel including a aero medical evacuation team.
