Imagery from Operation Sumatra Assist
Australian and New Zealand Defence Force personnel supporting the
Indonesian-led tsunami relief and reconstruction effort on the island
of Sumatra paused for a minute silence on Sunday, 16 January 2005, to
mark a National Day of Mourning and Reflection for victims of the Boxing
Day 2004 Indian Ocean earthquakes and tsunamis.
Australian
Defence personnel are part of a co-operative national Australian tsunami
relief effort involving the ADF, DFAT (AusAID), and Emergency Management
Australia.
Water, tentage, medical supplies and support, blankets and other emergency
provisions, logistical support, and Army Engineers reconstruction capabilities
have been provided.
