Defence Minister, Senator Robert Hill visits HMAS Kanimbla in Darwin

The Governor-General, Major General Michael Jeffery, and the Defence Minister, Senator Robert Hill, met with men and women from the Australian Defence Force contingent sailing aboard HMAS Kanimbla on 7 January 2005 with much needed tsunami disaster relief aid for the people of Sumatra in Indonesia.

Senator Hill said the number of Australian Defence Force personnel now in the Indonesian region had grown to over 460. This number would increase by a further 400 when Kanimbla took up station from mid-January 2005 off Banda Aceh, capital of Indonesia's Aceh Province.
