HMAS Kanimbla

On 30 December 2004, the Australian Government committed the transport ship HMAS Kanimbla and an Army Engineer detachment to aid in the recovery and reconstruction of communities devastated by the Boxing Day tsunami in Indonesia. Once on station from mid January 2005 off Banda Aceh, capital of the Indonesian province of Aceh, Kanimbla is capable of supporting the Indonesian Government tsunami relief effort with a range of facilities including medical, accommodation and communications. HMAS Kanimbla will be able to remain on station for around 30 days before requiring resupply.
