Australian P-3C Orion crews from Number 92 Wing continue to provide effective and direct support to Coalition operations.
Deployed on Operations Slipper and Falconer, the P-3 Detachment has been conducting maritime patrol operations in the MEAO since late Jan 2003.
Crews have been using the aircraft's comprehensive sensor suite to provide situation awareness to Coalition ground, air and naval forces of Iraqi operations. Crews also continue to provide direct support to US Aircraft Carriers conducting strikes into Iraq.
Sorties are generally around ten hours in duration, and with pre-flight briefings and checks and post flight reporting, crews work a 15-17 hour day.
The Orion crews are effectively supported by around 100 plus operations, maintenance and combat support personnel who work around the clock to ensure that missions are effectively planned, prepared and supported and that aircraft are serviceable for each mission.
RAAF P-3C Orion operations in the Middle East Area of Operations, on Operations Slipper and Falconer, continue 92WG's proud operational track record and sit along side the Wing's continuing strong and effective contribution to Australia's border protection operations under Operation Relex I and II.
