SASR welcome home, Campbell Barracks, Perth

Special Air Service Regiment members meet their families at Campbell Barracks, Perth, shortly after arriving home from service in Iraq.
The regiment contributed a squadron group to the Special Forces Task Group, one of three elements of the ADF contribution to the coalition operation.
SASR members were at the forefront of the ADF’s fighting contribution operating deep in Western Iraq for the duration of the war.
Squadron members who served in Iraq for more than thirty days have been awarded the Infantry Combat Badge.
During the welcome home ceremony, Prime Minister John Howard announced one member of the contingent was awarded the Medal for Gallantry for his actions during an engagement on an Iraqi military installation.
The welcome home ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister, Minister for Defence Senator Robert Hill, Opposition Leader Simon Crean, Chief of the Defence Force General Peter Cosgrove, Chief of Army Lieutenant General Peter Leahy and Special Operations Commander Australia Major General Duncan Lewis.
