US President George W. Bush meets Australian and US troops in the Middle East

About 40 Australian defence staff from Australian National Headquarters and personnel from the C130 and Combined Air Operations Centre detachments participated in a formal ceremony with the President of the United States of America. The personnel were officially recognised, along with their British counter-parts, for their contribution as part of the Coalition’s conflict in Iraq. The Australians were prominent among the gathering and received an especially loud applause when they were mentioned by President George W. Bush. Commander Central Command General Tommy Franks and Secretary of State Colin Powell were also present as the President wound up his week-long tour through Europe and the Middle East.
