Governor General at East Timor

Australian troops serving in East Timor as part of the International Stabilisation Force had the opportunity to meet Australia’s Governor General, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, when she visited the Dare Memorial in Dili on August 30.

Ms Bryce was in Dili at the invitation of the Government of East Timor to attend the 10th anniversary of Popular Consultation celebrations.

During her visit to Dare, Ms Bryce met with Commander of the International Stabilisation Force in East Timor, Brigadier Bill Sowry, and took time to greet a small group of Timor-Leste Battle Group VI soldiers who formed a guard at the memorial site where she laid a wreath.

Ms Bryce was joined by Australian Ambassador His Excellency Peter Heyward and Ms Kirsty Sword Gusmao, wife of Prime Minister Xanano Gusmao. The group also visited the memorial museum and spoke with local staff.
