Kate Greenwood had always wanted to be a diesel mechanic. Ever since she was a kid she had loved pulling engines apart with her dad, and loved to get her hands dirty and fix things.
Exercise TALISMAN SABER 2013 is a biennial combined Australian and United States (US) training activity, designed to train our respective military forces in planning and conducting Combined Task Force operations to improve the combat readiness and interoperability between our respective forces. This exercise is a major undertaking that reflects the closeness of our alliance and the strength of the ongoing military-military relationship.
What is Exercise TALISMAN SABER 2013?The exercise is a US led Australian supported exercise conducted primarily in Australia to improve combat training, readiness and interoperability, across a wide spectrum of military activities. The exercise forms part of the ADF’s extensive training program to ensure the ADF is prepared to protect and support Australia and its national interests. The exercise also contributes to the ability of Australian and US military forces to work together efficiently and safely. By working with the US military forces, the exercise strengthens proactive and responsive strategies and enhances measures to defend Australia and its national interests.
When will Exercise TALISMAN SABER 2013 take place?The exercise is scheduled to take place from 15 July to 5 August 2013. During this period the exercise participants will conduct preparatory training prior to commencing a more intensive period of tactical training. Military personnel and units will be deploying to exercise start positions prior to the exercise commencement on 15 July. Military personnel will also take some time to redeploy post completion of the exercise on 5 August. Additionally, US military forces may be taking the opportunity to conduct some unilateral training on Australian ranges both pre and post the exercise.
Where is Exercise TALISMAN SABER 2013 being held?Exercise TALISMAN SABER 2013 is conducted at designated ADF training facilities throughout Queensland, and in adjacent maritime areas of the Coral Sea. Key sites include the Shoalwater Bay Training Area (Central Queensland), Townsville Field Training Area, port facilities in Queensland (Brisbane, Gladstone and Alma Ports).
How is TALISMAN SABER 2013 being environmentally assessed?
A draft Public Environment Report has been prepared by consultants to Defence, Aurecon, to inform Defence, the Australian public and relevant stakeholders of potential environmental and heritage issues relating to the conduct of TALISMAN SABER 13.
All interested community members are encouraged to view the draft Public Environment Report and provide feedback during the public consultation period from 24 September to 26 October 2012. Copies of the draft report as well as supporting fact sheets can be downloaded from http://www.aurecongroup.com/talismansabre2013.
The feedback received will be used by Defence to guide and inform the final Public Environment Report.
