Security in Sydney Rail Network
Sydney’s rail tunnels have become the domain of Operation DELUGE’s Security Task Group (STG), as they begin regular searches as part of support for the New South Wales Police Security Task Force’s security effort for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference from 2-9 September.
Leaving no hatch, circuit box, safety alcove and rail track unchecked, the STG (made up of Reserve soldiers from all over Australia), is securing all tunnels whether active or inactive, ensuring that no improvised explosive devices of sabotage exist to interrupt the conference.
Soldiers will be patrolling and searching the tunnel network for the entire length of the APEC event, working with The New South Wales Police and other State government agencies.
The ADF is acting in support of the NSW Police Force and other government agencies as part of the overall security arrangements for the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Conference 2007 Leaders meetings.
The ADF is providing approximately 1500 people as part of Operation Deluge, which is supporting the security aspects of APEC 07.
A range of capabilities will be in place throughout the period of the meetings to ensure Australia stages a safe, secure and successful event for the delegates.
