Security Task Group in action
The Security Task Group (STG) created for the Australian Defence Force Operation Deluge, has been conducting intensive training during the build-up to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference in Sydney.
Major General Ian Flawith, Commander of 2nd Division and Major General Richard Wilson, Commander of 1st Division were on hand to watch the STG, which comprises of Reserve soldiers from around Australia, practice low risk search procedures which will be implemented at vehicle checkpoints across the city during the conference which will be held from 2-9 September.
Major General Flawith spoke with the assembled Diggers, passing on his appreciation for the commitment they had made to Operation DELUGE and wished them well on the task ahead.
There was also a rare moment when Major General Wilson met with his brother, Major David Wilson who is currently involved with Operation DELUGE as part of the Joint Task Force 634 Headquarters staff.
The ADF will act in support of the NSW Police and other government agencies as part of the overall security arrangements for the APEC 07 Leaders' meetings.
The ADF is providing approximately 1500 people along with a range of equipment, as part of Operation Deluge, to support the security aspects of APEC 07 in Sydney during September.
A range of capabilities will be in place throughout the period of the meetings in support of the New South Wales Police to ensure that Australia stages a safe, secure and successful event for the delegates.
