Black Hawks over Defence Plaza

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) conducted security training in and around Sydney on 27 August 2007 as part of a comprehensive program to practice its response to security-related incidents within Australia during the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leader’s Week in September 2007.

During the training, Black Hawk helicopters flew in formation to practice delivering soldiers on top of Defence Plaza. The Army helicopters made several approaches to the venues by day and night in order to rehearse aircrews.

The ADF will act in support of the NSW Police and other government agencies as part of the overall security arrangements for APEC.

The ADF is providing approximately 1500 people along with a range of equipment as part of Operation Deluge to support the security aspects of the APEC 07 Leaders' meetings in Sydney during September.

A range of capabilities will be in place throughout the period of the meetings in support of the New South Wales Police to ensure that Australia stages a safe, secure and successful event for the delegates
