Training build-up for APEC
The Australian Defence Force (ADF) conducted security training in and around Sydney during 07-09 August 2007 as part of a comprehensive program to practice its response to security-related incidents within Australia during the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Week in September 2007.
During the training, several helicopters flew in formation to practice delivering soldiers in the vicinity of Defence Plaza and the Sydney International Equestrian Centre. The helicopters made several approaches to the venues by day and night in order to rehearse aircrews.
The ADF will act in support of the NSW Police and other government agencies as part of the overall security arrangements for the APEC 07 Leaders' meetings.
The ADF is providing approximately 1500 people along with a range of equipment as part of Operation Deluge to support the security aspects of APEC 07.
A range of capabilities will be in place in support of the New South Wales Police to ensure that Australia stages a safe, secure and successful event for the delegates.
