Operation VIC FIRE ASSIST
Following Brigadier Arnold's welcome the NSW police were sworn in as special constables by Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Bob Hastings. Over the next week the NSW police will support Victoria Police officers in bushfire affected areas.
Brigadier Arnold acknowledged the spirit of cooperation between Defence and the Victoria Police since the bushfire crisis began, and said the relationship with the police in Victoria and other states had been enhanced. Assistant Commissioner Hastings thanked Defence for accommodating visiting police, and also said that the police had been working with ADF rapid impact assessment teams, who had been doing a great job.
