Letters from West Wyalong

Despite battling the hardships of the drawn-out drought, the residents of a country town in Central West New South Wales have dug deep to provide an extra bit of Christmas cheer to Australian soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

The West Wyalong Public school and local community collected lollies, magazines and small gifts, putting together approximately 135 care packages for soldiers.

The school children also wrote Christmas cards to those deployed, thanking the Diggers for the sacrifices they’re making on behalf of all Australians to help the people of Afghanistan.

The influx of packages was due to the efforts of the school’s principal, Lyn Barnes, who is the aunt of Major Michael McMillan from the 2nd Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force.
