HMAS STUART in the Gulf of Aden
HMAS Stuart (CMDR Masters) recently completed its first patrol in the Middle East Area of Operation, during this deployment, stopping off in the Gulf of Aden, for maintenance, re-supply and respite.
Whilst inbound to the port, the ship received a visit from Commander of Australia’s Forces in the Middle East, Major General Mark Kelly, who welcomed Stuart to Operation Slipper, wishing it well in its counter-piracy and maritime security efforts.
As part of its counter-piracy activities, the ANZAC frigate patrols the waters off the Gulf of Aden, the Somalia Basin and the Horn of Africa according to the International Law of the Sea and support and safeguard merchant vessels and other legitimate maritime traffic underway in the region.
