Special Operations Task Group

Australian Special Forces are maintaining pressure on insurgents in Uruzgan Province with the onset of cooler weather in Afghanistan.

During a recent operation in the Mirabad region, an area previously dominated by insurgents, the Special Operations Task Group (SOTG) offered a highly-visible reminder that their objective was to protect the local population.

Special Forces soldiers also used the opportunity to conduct key leadership engagements with local Afghans and to assess the requirement for further practical assistance, helping with critical irrigation infrastructure.

The operation was again led by uniformed Afghan police from the SOTG's partner force, the Uruzgan Provincial Police Reserve. This and other work is aimed at building a new patrol base in the region.
