Cache find

In the first two months of Operation Baz Panje in the Mirabad valley of Uruzgan Province, southern Afghanistan, soldiers from the 2nd rotation of the Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force (MRTF-2) have uncovered 44 separate caches.

The caches have included weapons and ammunition, ranging from an 82mm recoiless rifle to rocket propelled grenade (RPB) rounds, as well as improvised explosive device (IED) componentry.

Commanding Officer of MRTF-2, Lieutenant Colonel Peter Connolly, said between 24 September and 28 November 2009, the operation had also resulted in the discovery of 11 IEDs, which were set to target Australian and Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers.
