HOPE CROSSING for the Residents of Uruzgan Province

Residents of Uruzgan Province have a new crossing thanks to the hard work of Australian Army engineers serving as part of the second rotation of the Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force (MRTF-2).

Kowtwal Crossing was officially opened on the 24th of September after initial planning started in June last year.

Commander of Australian forces in the Middle East and Afghanistan, Major General Mark Kelly and Task Force Uruzgan Commander, Dutch Brigadier Marc Van Uhm, attended the opening ceremony.

Designed by the fourth rotation of the Reconstruction Task Force (RTF-4) and the first rotation of the Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force (MRTF-1), it was completed during MRTF-2’s watch.

The crossing is a 116 metre long box culvert causeway. The overall construction was done in three steps, using four contractors who were managed by Australian Army engineers.
