MRTF-2 Helps Uruzgan Vote On Afghan Election Day

Australian soldiers from the Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force-2 maintained their high operational tempo during the 20th August Afghan Election, providing security support to the Afghan National Security Forces.

With a persistent coalition presence in Uruzgan Province, insurgents failed to significantly disrupt Election Day activities in the province.

Planning for the election was the priority task for the Townsville-based soldiers, ensuring that the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police could take the lead in security for Election Day.

Soldiers with the MRTF’s Operational Mentor and Liaison Team (OMLT) provided dedicated support and guidance to their Afghan National Army (ANA) colleagues in the months prior to the election, setting them up for success.
