Australian's chalk one up for education in Tarin Kowt

The lives of Tarin Kowt locals are set to be significantly improved after the completion of a number of projects currently being managed by engineers from the 1st Battalion Battle Group (1 RAR BG).

The Battle Group forms the second rotation of the Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force (MRTF-2).

On a recent inspection of work sites, MRTF-2 engineers showed the Commanding Officer LTCOL Peter Connolly, Uruzgan Governor Assadullah Hamdam and the Tarin Kowt Mayor Maulawi Obaidullah the progress of the projects.

The sites visited included the Tarin Kowt Waste Management Facility, the Boy’s High School and Kowtwal Crossing. Australian Army engineers manage the projects from inception to completion, designing the facilities in consultation with the local government before contracting the physical construction component to local companies, generating employment within Tarin Kowt and developing the local construction industry.
