Hope House Orphanage

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel deployed in Kabul have engaged Mahboba's Promise, and have affiliated themselves with Hope House. This orphanage houses up to 100 children a day and the charity also provides as much local support as it can to those that are desperately in need of help. Staff of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Headquarters in Kabul have been supporting this cause and have already donated much needed blankets, food, sports kit clothing, books, toys and educational material. Many of these donations have been sent by families of deployed soldiers.

Mahboba's Promise was founded by Mahboba Rawi, herself a refugee from Afghanistan, now an Australian citizen. Mahboba’s Promise aims to provide aid to disadvantaged Afghani women, widows, children and orphans. The Association achieves this through development programs such as the establishment of schools, health clinics and community facilities destined to be operated by local authorities and communities.

Operation SLIPPER is Australia's military contribution to coalition efforts against international terrorism. Under this operation our forces contribute to the efforts of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) - led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, aimed at preventing Afghanistan again becoming a safe haven for international terrorists, and the United States-led International Coalition Against Terrorism (ICAT) efforts in the broader Middle East.
