Providing security during a reconstruction inspection visit to a primary school in Tarin Kowt

Tarin Kowt is the capital of Uruzgan Province and has been the centre of Australian reconstruction efforts since mid 2006. Many of the reconstruction projects are managed works that is, designed and managed by Australian Army Engineers and constructed by local contractors.

As part of the management of these projects, Australian personnel from the 1st Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force, routinely visit these construction sites to ensure the progress and quality of the builds.

Projects to date include The Tarin Kowt Hospital, The local Health Training Facility, primary and high schools, bridges and a number of security check points. Engineers with security provided by Infantry and Cavalry soldiers visit the works and liaise with both the users and the local engineers who are working to build and provide vital infrastructure in the region.
