Spinning for charity
The shared Australian and Dutch base at Tarin Kowt in southern Afghanistan, is a world away from the fire devastated Victorian countryside, but their spirit did not stop them from taking to their exercise bikes to raise money for nominated charities in their home countries.
In a 24 hour marathon of spinning, soldiers from the two countries raised over US$6 000, which will be shared between a children’s cancer fund in the Netherlands and the Victorian bush-fire appeal.
It was a gruelling event with most riders spending at least three hours on the bike.| 20090321adf8185016_0003 (Left to right) Captain Damienne Eames provides a little moral support as Captain Patrick Bates gets into the swing of things as he spins during a 24-hour spinning marathon in support of the Villa Joep Child Cancer Fund and the Victorian bush-fire appeal.
