Ramp ceremony for Aussie soldier
Sergeant (SGT) Brett Till has commenced his journey home to Australia. A ramp ceremony at Tarin Kowt in southern Afghanistan provided an opportunity for friends and colleagues to bid farewell to the popular soldier who died when attempting to render safe an Improvised Explosive Device discovered during a Special Operations Task Group (SOTG) patrol.
SGT Till, from the Sydney based Incident Response Regiment, was serving with SOTG when he was killed-in-action on 19 March, 2009.
A patrol vehicle bearing SGT Till’s casket and a procession of his SOTG colleagues passed solemnly along a route lined by members of the Australian Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force and representatives from coalition forces in Uruzgan. At Tarin Kowt airstrip, his casket was carried by eight of his mates into the rear of an RAAF C-130 Hercules aircraft to begin the journey home.| 20090321adf8185016_0101 Engineers from the Australian Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force lead a procession of vehicles as Sergeant (SGT) Till’s casket is brought to the RAAF C-130 Hercules aircraft to begin the journey home to Australia.
