Controlling the coalition's air battle space

Members of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) serving with the Controlling and Reporting Centre (CRC) – Taipan; are working in Camp Palomino at Kandahar, in Southern Afghanistan. The CRC completes the vitally important task of controlling the coalitions air battle space.

Air Combat and Air Surveillance Officers control an evolving airspace to ensure that close air support is always ready to support troops on the ground.

Officers monitoring and controlling the battle space are also supported by technicians engaging in administration, maintenance, and repair tasks that keep the CRC operating. The CRC is an important part of Australia’s contribution to the NATO led coalition fighting the war on terror in Afghanistan.
