Diggers patrol through Baluchi

The 1st Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force has been responsible for the creation and operation of the Australian Operational Mentoring and Liaison Teams (OMLT).

These soldiers live, work and train with members of the Afghan National Army (ANA), both at the main International Security and Assistance Base at Tarin Kowt and in patrol bases spread throughout the surrounding districts.

The OMLT work hand in hand with the ANA and with other Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Forces to provide security for the local national population.

Each day, they gather to prepare for operations and then move throughout their areas of responsibility in small numbers with their ANA partners, mentoring and working with the soldiers whose country they are helping to rebuild.
