Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force - 1

Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force - 1 commenced operations in Afghanistan in October this year. As part of Australia's ongoing military contribution to Afghanistan, nearly 500 Afghan locals have been trained in basic construction, plumbing and associated trades at the Trade Training School in Tarin Kowt.

Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force - 1 continues to run the school including local instructors who were trained during the first Trade Training School course conducted in 2006.

30 students currently enrolled in the Trade Training School are learning skills which will improve their quality of life and provide employment opportunities with various reconstruction tasks occurring throughout Uruzgan province.

Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force - 1 continues to work on schools, health and Afghan Government facilities throughout the region.

Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force - 1 engineers are also engaged in the winterisation of patrol bases throughout the province in order to better protect personnel during Afghanistan's harsh winters.

Australia's contribution to Afghanistan is among the tenth largest of the 40 contributing nations, and the largest of any non-NATO contributing nations.
