MRTF 1

The 1st Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force (MRTF -1) is Australia’s largest contribution to the NATO led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). MRTF -1 consists of some 440 personnel.

The Battle Group is led by the Darwin-based 7th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment and is supported by other 1st Brigade Units, including the 2nd Cavalry Regiment and the 1st Combat Engineer Regiment.

The Task Force is continuing the efforts to rebuild and improve infrastructure undertaken successfully by previous Reconstruction Task Forces and has the additional mission of mentoring the Afghan National Army Brigade in Uruzgan Province. The mentoring activities are being undertaken by MRTF – 1’s Operational Mentor and Liaison Team.

Both mentoring and reconstruction efforts are designed to further improve the security and infrastructure within Uruzgan Province.

MRTF – 1 is based in Tarin Kowt with the Netherlands’ led Task Force Uruzgan.
