Mentoring and Reconstruction task force

The new rotation of Australian soldiers in Afghanistan has begun operations in Uruzgan province.

The first mentoring and Reconstruction task force (MTF 1), formed by the Darwin-based seventh Battalion Royal Australian Regiment battle group has taken over from the fourth Reconstruction task force in Tarin Kowt.

The handover marks a new chapter for the ADF in Afghanistan with the first infantry lead task force taking over from the engineers of the RTF.

Commanding Officer MRTF 1 Lieutenant Colonel Shane Gabriel told the formal handover parade, that his soldiers have a new focus ahead, as they take on additional job of mentoring Afghan national army troops in the field.

Departing RTF 4 Commanding Officer Lieutenant-Colonel Stuart Yeaman, says his troops are extremely proud of their work rebuilding the remote and dangerous province, and very glad to be home.

RTF 4 has handed over responsibility for its area of operations to the 1st Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force which begins its eighth month tour on the 16th of October.
