Chief of Air Force visits Orion Detachment
A RAAF AP-3C Orion Detachment of about 170 personnel conducts maritime patrol operations, with two aircraft and associated command and support elements supporting both Operation CATALYST - the Australian Defence Force contribution to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iraq, and Operation SLIPPER - Australia's contribution to the coalition against terrorism.
Operation CATALYST is the Australian Defence Force (ADF) contribution to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iraq. Operation SLIPPER is the ADF contribution to the international coalition against terrorism.
Working with the Iraqi Government, the ADF continues to contribute to Multi-National Force efforts to develop a secure and stable environment in Iraq, assist national recovery programs and facilitate the transition to Iraq self-government.
Operation CATALYST currently comprises up to 1575 Australian Defence Force personnel while up to 1025 personnel are committed to Operation SLIPPER.
Australia's commitment to Operation SLIPPER includes a national command element, liaison officers, a Reconstruction Task Force, Special Operations Task Group, Air Force Control and Reporting Centre, a logistics asset and an artillery detachment deployed as part of the United Kingdom's Task Force Helmand.
A RAAF AP-3C Orion detachment of about 170 personnel and two aircraft supports both operations.
Major General Mike Hindmarsh commands all ADF units deployed in the Middle East Area of Operations including all elements assigned to Operation CATALYST and Operation SLIPPER.
