Ramp Ceremony in Afghanistan for Lance Corporal Jason Marks

Australian soldier Lance Corporal Jason Marks has been bid farewell by his comrades during a solemn ceremony at Tarin Kowt.

LCPL Jason Marks, from the 4th Battalion (Commando) The Royal Australian Regiment, was serving with the Special Operations Task Group (SOTG) when he was killed in action during a battle with Taliban extremists in Uruzgan Province, southern Afghanistan.

Following a memorial service, a SOTG patrol vehicle bearing LCPL Marks’ casket and a procession of his SOTG colleagues passed solemnly along a route lined by members of the Australian Reconstruction Task Force and representatives from coalition forces in Uruzgan.

On the dusty airstrip at Tarin Kowt, his casket was carried by eight of his mates at a slow march past LCPL Marks’ fellow SOTG members into the back of the C-130 Hercules aircraft that would shortly begin the journey home to Australia.
