Hamish and Andy broadcast live from Afghanistan

In a first for Australian radio, top rating Australian DJs Hamish and Andy have raised morale for troops of the Reconstruction Task Force (RTF) in Afghanistan with a flying visit and live broadcasts from their base in Uruzgan Province.

Broadcasting from the ‘Giggle Bunker’ - a real concrete bunker to protect against the remote possibility of Taliban attack - the comedian’s antics had the troops in stitches throughout the two-hour broadcast.

There were also emotional moments when immediate family rang in to wish their loved ones well and soldiers sent messages home.

While laughter led the way, the two comedians were also keen to learn about the work of the RTF.

From security aspects, to the training of locals and construction projects, the boys soaked up as much experience as possible - they even volunteered for a stint on night piquet to help guard the base from attack.

"We’ve been blown away by the good work being done by these soldiers to help the Afghans get back on their feet," Hamish Blake said while speaking between broadcasts.
