Air Defence Radar for the RAAF Control and Reporting Centre

The RAAF Control and Reporting Centre (CRC) is staffed by approximately 75 personnel and is based at Kandahar Airfield in Southern Afghanistan. The CRC will assume tactical command and control of the Afghanistan airspace on 5th Aug 2007. Responsibility for the area of operations is currently held by the USAF who have been conducting operations since 2002.
Following the exchange of command, the CRC will sustain 24/7 operations augmented by a USAF communications team. The CRC at Kandahar is an integral element of the NATO- led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), Command and Control architecture. The main role of the CRC is to support ISAF air operations; however the CRC will also provides a wide array of battle-space management functions. The CRC will be responsible for the execution of the daily Air Tasking Order (ATO) which outlines all planned air activities for the day.

The CRC is drawn from personnel within No 41WG, part of the RAAF Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group.

Australia's contribution to ISAF in Afghanistan is an important component of the Australian Government's commitment to working together with the international community to help prevent acts of terrorism around the world.
