CDF, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, visits Australian troops serving in Afghanistan
The Chief of the Australian Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, visited Australian troops serving in Afghanistan to see first-hand the facilities that the Australian Reconstruction Task Force (RTF) will be using during its tour of duty.
Australia’s contribution, known as the Reconstruction Task Force (RTF), is a mix of engineers and security personnel deployed to Afghanistan for up to 2 years to work on reconstruction and community-based projects as part of Australia’s commitment to assisting Afghanistan achieve a stable and secure future.
The Australian contingent, of some 250 personnel, has been on the ground for over a month preparing the camp and conducting planning for future RTF construction and trade training projects.
Some 400 Australian Defence Force personnel will be working in Afghanistan as part of the Netherlands-led Provincial Reconstruction Team under the NATO International Security Assistance Force’s Stage III expansion into southern Afghanistan.
