Child Health Check Teams at Hermannsburg

Hermannsburg was the initial indigenous community to receive the first of the Health Assessment Teams (HATS) lead by Doctor Emil Djakic. With logistics support and supplies including tents, examination tables, food, medical supplies and transportation from Joint Task Force 641 (CJTF641) the health team moved into Hermannsburg on the 10 July 2007. The Australian Defence Force began its assistance to the whole of government Interagency Task Force (IATF) on June 27.

The soldiers serving on Operation OUTREACH are from Joint Task Force 641 (JTF 641), the Australian Defence Force’s logistical contribution to the whole of government Interagency Task Force (IATF).

JTF 641 is based on the North West Mobile Force (NORFORCE), a Regional Force Surveillance unit that is located throughout the NT.

NORFORCE has built significant goodwill, trust and recognition in indigenous communities over the last 25 years. The unit has a high proportion of Aboriginal soldiers and unit relies heavily on the commitment and local knowledge of the population of northern and central Australia to fulfil its role.

On Operation OUTREACH, NORFORCE soldiers have been warmly welcomed and well received in the 20 communities they have visited in escorting Australian Government representatives during the first two weeks of the site survey patrol program.
