Interacting with local children
The Cove is home to the heart of the SECDET team. SECDET members provide security for the Australian embassy in Baghdad.
Rotation XIV is the first SECDET to deploy for eight months, and has been one of the busiest SECDET rotations.
Security Detachment (SECDET) XIV Diggers bonded with Iraqi children when they escorted Australian diplomatic staff to the German embassy in Baghdad’s ‘red zone’.
The infantry and cavalry soldiers provided an outer cordon of protection for personal security detachment (PSD) Military Police, who guarded the Australian embassy staff.
