Greeting cards for deployed troops
Sharon Williams was surfing through some craft blogs one day when something caught her eye: an American woman mentioned that she was making blank cards for deployed U.S. servicemembers to send back to their loved ones on special occasions. As Sharon’s husband, Chaplain Alan Williams, was preparing for his own deployment to the Middle East with the RAAF, an idea began to take shape: why not make some cards for the Australian troops to send home? As Mothers’ Day was early in his deployment, this seemed like a good starting point.
Sharon’s support snowballed. She enlisted the help of the craft group at RAAF Base Tindal, and together they supplied Chaplain Williams with enough cards for his Task Group.
Chaplain Williams has cards available for birthdays, anniversaries, the birth of a child, in sympathy or any other special occasion.
Sharon hopes others might follow her lead and make cards for other deployed troops. She has already begun to recruit card makers through her own blog (http://stampin-scrappin@blogspot.com), so that the next supply of cards to her husband will provide an even broader selection.
