Australian Army Training Team - Iraq 9
Australian forces from the Australian Army Training Team - Iraq 9 ( AATT-I 9 or 'The Team') continue their role of mentoring and training the Iraqi Army in order to facilitate its progress to self-reliance.
The team is focused on assisting the instructors from the Iraqi Army, enabling them to train their own soldiers to a high standard. The AATT-I 9 are advising, mentoring, implementing training techniques and generally overseeing instruction at Camp Ur in southern Iraq, Taji near Baghdad and Kirkush in northern Iraq.
The milestone of 30,000 Iraqi Army soldiers trained by Australian Army Training Teams is only weeks away, and the AATT-I 9 is pleased with the quality and quantity of graduates during the past five years.
The Australian Army Training Team - Iraq is part of Operation CATALYST, the Australian Defence Force's contribution to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iraq.
Working with the Iraqi Government, Australian troops continues to contribute to Multi-National Force efforts to develop a secure and stable environment in Iraq, assist national recovery programs and facilitate the transition to Iraq self-government.
