Aussies tackle Iraq in soccer friendly

The Overwatch Battle Group (West)-Three’s (OBG(W)-3 soccer team lost a thrilling match 1-2 against the might of the Iraqi Army’s 3rd Brigade team in the desert of southern Iraq recently.

The match was played on 20 November at the 3rd Brigade’s Camp Urr Army base in Dhi Qar province and was watched by more than 300 football passionate Iraqi and Australian soldiers.

Approximately 515 personnel, drawn mostly from Darwin's 1st Brigade, make up the Overwatch Battle Group (West) - Three (OBG(W)-3). The Battle group is helping the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) and Provincial Governments build a secure and stable Iraq. OBG(W)-3 operates in the Al Muthanna and Dhi Qar provinces as part of the Multi National Force - Iraq (MNF-I).
