Brigadier Brian Dawson
A former Special Air Service Regiment officer and Commandant of the Australian Defence Force Academy, Brigadier Brian Dawson assumed command of JTF633-Iraq from Brigadier Gerard Fogarty on 10 November 2007.
The Deputy Commander Joint Task Force 633-Iraq commands some 1500 Australian Defence Force personnel assigned to Operation CATALYST, the Australian contribution to the Multi-National Force helping to develop a secure and stable environment in Iraq. Overall command for all Australian troops assigned to the Middle East, including Afghanistan (Operation SLIPPER), remains with Major General Mark Evans.
Operation CATALYST is the Australian Defence Force (ADF) contribution to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iraq. Working with the Iraqi Government, the ADF continues to contribute to Multi-National Force efforts to develop a secure and stable environment in Iraq, assist national recovery programs and facilitate the transition to Iraq self-government.
