Red Nose Day in southern Iraq

When Australian soldiers in southern Iraq put on funny red noses to mark Red Nose Day on 29 June, many of the 10,000 Coalition troops who are also based at Ali Air Base wondered what was going on.

Scores of Australian soldiers who deployed with the Overwatch Battle Group (West)-3 to Dhi Qar province wore the red noses to raise awareness and funds for kids and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Approximately 500 personnel, drawn mostly from Darwin's 1st Brigade, make up the Overwatch Battle Group (West) - Three (OBG(W)-3). The Battle group is helping the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) and Provincial Governments build a secure and stable Iraq. OBG(W)-3 operates in the Al Muthanna and Dhi Qar provinces as part of the Multi National Force - Iraq (MNF-I).
